Saturday, March 19 marked the first Huntsville Comic and Pop Culture Expo. Chris and I attended as venders. It was run well, and the turnout was amazing, especially for a first year event.
It was a beautiful day. It was bright and sunny and warm without being scorching, as it can easily become here in North Alabama. They had a slew of food trucks available just outside, and the smell of them cooking wafted into the convention space all day. Chris and I tried shooting a simple vlog during the event. It was our first convention since we began vlogging, so please forgive the rookie mistakes. We're learning.
As good as the bands were and despite the staff's efforts to keep it to reasonable levels, the music did make it difficult for venders and customers to hear one another while they played. People had to get really close to one another to speak at all, and we're fairly sure that played a roll in con crud setting in the next morning. That's to be expected at least once a year when working the circuit though, and the venue reserved for next year should allow for any bands to have a space other than the main floor to play.
All in all, it was a terrific show, and we plan to attend again next year. I know I flubbed my words fairly often in the video above. I'd had trouble recalling words or being able to pronounce things properly for a couple days beforehand. As it turns out, I was experiencing a five day migraine aura. That's one reason this vlog and the attached event recap is only now going up at almost 11 a.m. on Wednesday. It's also the reason I've been pinning all sorts of "different words for (enter emotion or action here" infographics onto my "Writing Technicals" board over on Pinterest this past week or so. Difficulty remembering words is one of my most common migraine aura symptoms, and I refuse to let each and every one stop me from working. Those lists are a lot easier to use to find a word I can't pull out of my memory than searching using vague descriptions.
